Cincinnati Reds get a new reliever – MLB Update
The Cincinnati Reds have succeeded in making another contract; this time with the Josh Judy. The right-handed reliever would be part of the Reds after serving as a rookie for the Cleveland Indians for a season.
The move has its own significance considering the recent trade that the Reds had with the Chicago Cubs, getting in their acquisition of Cubs’ reliever Sean Marshall. The rookie is expected to uplift the Cincinnati Reds’ defence.
A look at the Judy’s career, which spans only for few months now due largely to his new arrival in the Major League arena, shows he maintains 7.07 ERA. It may well not be economical for a promising rookie, but it is important to recall that the player has
made appearance only in 12 games, hurling only 14 innings.
However, looking back his Minor League record, he has everything of an effective and successful reliever that a team would look for. In the 52 innings of the 50 games that he was part of Triple-A Columbus, the player had an ERA of 3.12.
That, in every sense of the word, represents an image of the accomplished Minor League reliever. Add to it the fact that he had no less than 23 saves. This indeed serves the Reds who were looking for an efficaciously potent reliever.
This was something that the Cincinnati Reds general manager, Walt Jocketty referred to when he spoke about Judy, saying three of the four scouts had expressed approval of the player’s ability to hurl well.
“We had very good reports from three of our top scouts, and we like his arm,” the Cincinnati Reds general manager, Walt Jocketty said. “He's a guy that will fit in to the bullpen mix. He has options, so he would give us depth with our pitching staff at Louisville
if he doesn't make the club.”
With the induction of the player, who was earlier drafted by the Cleveland Indians back in 2007 as a First Year draft, the Reds have filled their roster to some extent, making him the 37th of the 40 players the Reds would need in the roster.
