Cincinnati Reds get on the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday –MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds are bracing themselves for the three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals, starting Tuesday, April 17. The Reds had failed to put much of the resistance in stopping the Redbirds from stealing the show.
However, much as the result did not favour the Reds the last time, the players seem confident to give the Cardinals a tough time this time round. Despite the Cardinals’ advantage of having the best offence and defence combination, the Reds did manage to
win the last of three-game series, thereby, not allowing the Cardinals to sweep the series.
"They're a good team," Reds right fielder Jay Bruce said. "We're a good team and we're going to play good, hard baseball. I think that's where it ends."
What is interesting to note here is the fact that a lot of the former Redbirds are now part of the Cincinnati Reds. From the general manager Walt Jocketty to Ryan Ludwick to Miguel Cairo, and Scott Rolen, the Reds also got their CEO Bob Castellini who was
the former minority owner of the Cardinals.
Be that as it may, the Reds have in the recent past tried to completely reconfigure. The team has had a marvellously good show in the Spring Training, specially the rotation and bullpen.
Despite all other considerations that one would like to weigh, Joey Votto – one of the accomplished hitters of the Reds, readily admits the superiority the Cardinals have in almost all the aspects of the game.
"I don't think the Cardinals see us at their level," Votto said. "I think they have a high level of confidence. I think they just see us as a stop along the way and not a real head-to-head challenge. I don't think we have earned that yet. It really is what
it is. They are the world champions. They're the team that came back and had a great playoff run.”
No matter what comparisons are drawn, the fact stands that both the teams go for competitive games. Only that the Cardinals have the advantage of being the World Series winner; and the Reds aspiring to win that glory this year.
