Cincinnati Reds hammered by Philadelphia Phillies 2-6 – MLB Recap
The Cincinnati Reds were hammered by the Philadelphia Phillies 2-6 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, September 5 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
"Roy did fine, As his arm gets stronger, he'll get more velocity. He has good movement. He made pitches when he had to. Kratz got us on the board, We talk about run production. He keeps hitting home runs. He might be Babe Ruth. Chase finally got one out to center, His power is still there. He's been hitting into tough luck. It seems like every time he hits the ball hard someone catches it," Phillies' manager Charlie Manuel said.
Reds' upfront pitchers did not perform well and subsequently lost the game with bitter humiliation.
Starter Mike Leake pitched 2.1 innings and received six runs and six hits. He also struck-out only one batter on his 4.73 ERA.
He looked tired on the mound and received two homers as well. He could have played much better but on the whole, it was Phillies' batters who did not allow him to maintain his ERA.
“They have a lot of good hitters that I haven't figured out yet, They have a good plan and make it work," Leake said.
Though later relief pitcher Alfredo Simon did support his team with his 2.2 innings in which he received only one hit but he could not do much as his team-mate and starter Leake already spoiled the game for the Reds. Simon struck-out one while he maintained his ERA at 2.47.
Only few batters were looking in great shape while the rest of the Reds' hitters did not play well and lost the game with bitter humiliation.
Left fielder Chris Heisey scored one run and smashed two hits on his .432 slugging percentage.
Right fielder Jay Bruce also was the only player in the Reds’ batting line-up who played relatively well but rest of their players just looked tired on the plate and showed little fighting spirit.
Bruce batted four times and scored one run on his three hits along with two RBIs as well.
