Cincinnati Reds hope hitting will improve as season progresses—MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds’ right fielder Jay Bruce on Sunday, April 15, struck a positive note on the ability and the aptitude of the team’s hitters. The Reds which have not quite been able to demonstrate their powerful hitting await the game to establish the evidence of its superiority.
However, much as he underscored the team’s capability to gain dominance when it comes to hitting, Bruce also acknowledged that the team has not done what is needed at this point in time, with defence apparently solid.
"I personally know we're going to hit," Reds right fielder Jay Bruce said while expressing his views on the hitting. "We always hit. In my opinion, it's better to do this now than in July or August. We absolutely have to do a better job, and that's the bottom line. With the exception of a few guys, no one is really hitting."
Joey Votto, with whom team recently signed one of the most expensive contracts in the franchise’s history, seems to agree with Bruce’s take. Votto’s emphasis is on the necessity of hitting now.
"We've played solid defense, I think, and have been pitching well," Votto said. "We're not hitting near where people expect. At some point, it will come around. If not, then oomph, poor Reds fans."
Before the last of four-game series against the Washington Nationals, the Cincinnati Reds have managed to score 10 runs in six of the games that they have played. With such a poor show, the Reds need to work on the hitting least it proves costly in the long run.
The Reds, in no way, are lacking when it comes to the power needed in the offence. With some of the best hitters representing this National League team, it is – nonetheless, finding it increasingly hard to assert itself.
However, with the inspirational leadership of the Dusty Baker, and the willingness and quickness to adapt, the Reds can rise to the situation, and meet the expectations of the fans who hope that the Reds will be able to make it to the postseason this year with a much stronger side.
