Cincinnati Reds hopeful for a better performance ahead – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds have recently been outperformed by their rivals which has triggered a huge concern within the team management and for the circle of fans. Nonetheless, the Reds are confident they will come out of this phase.
On Thursday, August 9, the team manager said that there were opportunities that were missed and the absence of a few players due to injury also played a role in whatever has transpired lately.
It is worthwhile to mention that the Cincinnati Reds have lost their last five games, which started with the first defeat against the Pittsburgh Pirates, followed by a three-game sweep by the Milwaukee Brewers.
The team manager also attributes it to the kind of strong clubs the team has faced during the aforementioned games.
"You go through periods like that," Baker said. "Some of that is we had opportunities with runners in scoring position and didn't get the hit, some of that is who you have in the lineup to replace [injured regulars], and then there were two big games in there that were well-pitched games against us. That has everything to do with scoring runs, the kind of quality pitching you have against you."
Among other things, it is also pertinent to mention that the Reds' bullpen has not lived up to expectations. Add to it the fact that the offence is not performing up to the mark either, leaving a lot of things to be desired.
Drew Stubbs is one of the hitters that have not done well lately. He has his explanation for it. "I think you've got to credit the Brewers' pitching staff and what they did," Stubbs said. "They were very resilient and kept our runs to a minimum and put themselves in position to win the games.”
All said, the Reds will be looking to re-focus on what has gone wrong. The team which until recently was one of the best in the National League is seeing a sharp and steep slump, something that will be worrying for many associated to the team and the fans who are keeping their fingers crossed for qualifying for the playoffs.
