Cincinnati Reds humiliate San Francisco Giants 10-2 - MLB Update
The San Francisco Giants suffered a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Cincinnati Reds even with their ace pitcher, Tim Lincecum on the mound they were defeated 10-2 in the third of the four game series on June 11 at AT&T Park in San Francisco, California.
The reigning World Series Champions, the Giants seem to be having more trouble than they can handle currently. With their Rookie of the Year and the best catcher c*m hitter on the team, Buster Posey, out for the entire season and General Manager Brain Sabean’s
controversial comments, things couldn’t have possibly gotten any worse for Bruce Bochy’s team. Unfortunately for them, things could get worse and they have.
Tim Lincecum is more or less the back bone of the Giants’ clubhouse. One could always rely on Lincecum to bring forth his best game when on the mound, regardless of whether the rest of the line-up was performing or not. It seems that along with the Giants
luck, Lincecum’s pitching prowess is diminishing as well. With the line-up being plagued by injuries and a nonexistent offence that could give the Philadelphia Phillies a run for their money, Lincecum was the Giants’ safety person.
The two time National League Cy Young winner was outdueled by Mike Leake of the Reds. A feat that left Leake himself, along with the sell-out crowd at the stadium stunned. If it wasn’t for the Reds’ jersey on Leake’s back, one would have easily mistaken
him for Lincecum based on the way he was pitching on the mound.
Leake pitched for eight nearly flawless shut-out innings where he barely let four hits and one walk pass him by while striking out eight in the same number of innings. Lincecum had one of the worst pitching experiences since his career started off as he
sacrificed seven runs in a very short time of over four innings. The fact that he allowed seven runs to pass him by is a first for him since he joined the Majors.
Manager for Cincinnati, Dusty Baker commented on Lincecum’s surprising performance by saying, "That's a two-time Cy Young award winner. He's one of the best in the business. He wasn't as sharp today as he usually is."
It should be noted that the Reds are the only team in the National League that Lincecum hasn’t gotten around to beating. This marked his third start where he remained winless against them.
Jay Bruce, Drew Stubbs, Brandon Phillips, Joey Votto, Ryan Hanigan, Paul Janish along with Jonny Gomes contributed with runs from the Reds’ side. A home-run in the ninth inning from Pat Burrell along with a hit by Andy Torres were the only runs from the
Giants’ side who suffered perhaps their most embarrassing defeat of the season.
