Cincinnati Reds lose to Seattle Mariners 2-4 – MLB news
Cincinnati Reds defeated by the Seattle Mariners 2-4 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on July 05 at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.
Mariners played wonderfully and hammered the Reds with great force. Their batters and pitchers played wonderfully and won with great ease.
“I made many a start on that mound, I got back out there and it felt like old times,” said Harang, who had never pitched against the Reds at Great American Ball Park.
Shortstop Brad Miller scored one run on two hits while he played confidently on his four at bats. Miller also maintained his slugging percentage at .500 and played a key role in his team’s win.
“I was a little nervous when I first went out there today, It was an awkward feeling coming out from the other side of the field,” Harang said.
Second baseman Nick Franklin scored one run on one hit. He ran for two RBIs on his four at bats while he maintained his slugging percentage at .473.
“Those first two balls, they've got two runs, You're surprised. They came out swinging. And with Harang throwing well and mixing his pitches and hitting his spots, that's a win,” Reds third baseman Todd Frazier said.
Along with batters, the Mariners pitchers also performed wonderfully and helped their team win against the Reds’ top offence.
“It has to be a big deal for him, He spent a lot of years here, had a lot of good years here,” Mariners manager Eric Wedge said.
Starting pitcher Aaron Harang pitched six innings and allowed two runs on six hits. He also allowed two earned runs while he struck out four Reds’ hitters on 4.92 ERA.
Closer Oliver Perez pitched one inning and remained hitless on his 1.39 ERA. He played well on the mound and struck out Reds’ three top hitters.
On the other hand, the Reds’ pitchers and hitters did not play well and lost bitterly in the end. Mike Leake pitched five innings and allowed four runs and five hits. He also allowed four earned runs along with two homers. He struck out two hitters while
his ERA rose to 2.73.
