Cincinnati Reds manager happy with the team’s improvement – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds' manager Dusty Baker said on Wednesday, July 11, that the team had aimed at improving the pitching, which has produced a good result. The team manager was all praise for the club which has put up a good fight this time to remain up in the ranking.
The contentment expressed by Dusty Baker does not necessarily mean that he wants his team to have the same approach in the second half of the season. He rather wants them to be more active and forceful both defensively and offensively.
Nonetheless, there is a sense of happiness for the way the team has performed so far, skilfully taking on their opponents, disarming them and winning with great style. There is a reason for Dusty Baker to be happy.
"We should be. You always want more," Baker said. "We said we wanted to improve our pitching staff. We hoped our young guys would improve and mature and they have. We wanted to improve our bullpen, which it has. How many teams that on any given day are vying for first place with three rookies [Zack Cozart, Devin Mesoraco and Todd Frazier] in the lineup?"
Baker is proud of the team for the wonderful display of game and the fighting spirit that it has exhibited since the start of the season.
"I'm proud of our guys that have clawed and fought," Baker said. "I wish we played a little smarter sometimes. But we will."
With multiple challenges that stare in the eyes of the team, the Reds – it goes without saying, have performed comparatively better than last year. The very fact that they have put teams like St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers behind testifies to their phenomenal improvement.
Once the second half of the season kicks off, the Reds will descend on the field with more confidence and with additional sense of responsibility. Challenges ahead are certainly not easy, and the team hardly seems deterred.
There are expectations of great competition as the season enters its second half, giving the fans another fascinating opportunity to see their favourite teams go against their rivals.
