Cincinnati Reds outclass New York Yankees 5-2 – MLB Recap
The Cincinnati Reds, with another spirited performance beat the New York Yankees 5-2 on their home field at Yankee Stadium, New York City on Sunday, May 20 in the last game of their three-match regular series encounter of 2012 Major League Baseball season.
"Time to go home, I don't want to be answering that question today," Reds manager Dusty Baker said.
Starter Johnny Cueto played well for the Reds and proved a great winning factor for them. He stayed on the mound for seven innings and gave only two runs.
Closer Aroldis Chapman also played well for the Reds as he pitched scoreless last important inning.
"Either inning for me is the same, Maybe one day things will get complicated and I'll get some pressure, but I don't feel that." Chapman said with confidence.
The game started off with a homer from Yankees’ designated hitter Raul Ibanez and Robinson Cano’s run, but later it was all Reds’ play where they never gave any chance to their opponents to come close rallying past them in every aspect of the game and eventually won in style.
Yankees’ starter CC Sabathia was not influential as he gave three runs and six hits in his seven innings and proved somewhat of a disaster for his team.
"Home runs are American League baseball. Everyone's going to give them up. That's the bottom line, He wasn't wild until the last inning. He was pretty darn good before that, so I wouldn't make too much of it," Yankees' manager Joe Girardi said.
With this win the Reds have also won the series 2-1 and now preparing for their next four-game encounter against the Atlanta Braves. The Yankees’ however, will play against the low averaged Kansas City Royals.
In the meanwhile, the Reds with .525 win percentage are improving towards more excellence. Their 21-19 win-loss record also shows as they are thinking out of the box and eying on next round’s qualification. So far they have faced their own Division opponents, but in the coming days more series are coming against some American League teams which will also determine their level of consistency.
