Cincinnati Reds pleased with Jay Bruce’s performance – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds' manager Dusty Baker on Wednesday, June 27, applauded the performance of Jay Bruce as the team won two consecutive games against the Milwaukee Brewers. In both encounters of the three-game series, Bruce had an instrumental role to guide the team’s victory.
The right fielder demonstrated his brilliance with the bat in Monday’s first game when he went for a two-run double at a time when neither of the two teams had scored. That made a good start, leading to the team’s ultimate win.
In the second game which was closely fought, Bruce did nothing less than magic. He smashed the game’s biggest hit, scoring a three-run homer to help the team win 4-3 at the end, bringing two consecutive victories for the Reds.
"That's the key, especially in that fifth spot. That's the RBI man," Reds' manager Dusty Baker said. "It's not the number of opportunities, it's coming through in as many opportunities as you can. That's big."
That which characterizes the player’s game is the consistency demonstrated by him. Bruce is performing at a time when the Reds need it most. It is, nonetheless, worthwhile to mention that he has been struggling hard lately to get his form back.
Be that as it may, while maintaining good form might have been much of an insurmountable challenge for many, including him, Bruce is confident about his control at-bats.
Bruce said, "I've been in control of my at-bats for the most part, and I seem to have been able to slow the game down enough at least but just haven't been getting hits. Hopefully it's turning around. I feel good and just continue to try to put myself in a position to be successful."
Appearing in a total of 72 games so far this year, Bruce has maintained an average of .249 with a slugging percentage of .521. He has scored 51 RBIs with 17 homers to his credit and scoring a total of 41 runs in 257 at-bats.
If he maintains this consistency and makes further improvement, he will be of great use for the Reds to establish dominance in the Division.
