Cincinnati Reds reliever Sean Marshall feels ever confident as season progresses – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds' reliever Sean Marshall said on Thursday, August 2, that he now feels confident and comfortable as the pitchers are performing really well. Having previously served as team’s closer, Marshall was replaced by Aroldis Chapman who is also performing consistently.
But it has been a wonderful few months for the reliever. Take for example his stats from May 20, he has done everything possible for a reliever to offset the rival batters. Marshall now has 1.01 in 32 games since he was replaced and brought in as reliever.
"I feel good," Marshall said. "I feel comfortable, confident and it makes it easier when the rest of the guys in the bullpen are pitching just as well. We've had a pretty good run. This is probably the most fun I've had playing baseball. It makes it more fun when you're winning. It's a great group of guys, especially down in the bullpen."
In the 32 games, he has allowed merely 20 hits with 1.01 ERA, having had no less than 27 strike-outs and allowing only five walks in just over 26 innings.
That is what the team would expect from one of the best relievers out there. He has contained his opponents to .198 since May 20. With massive support coming from the starters, relievers and closer, Marshall loves pitching in the close games wherein he can give the team a chance to win.
"I just love pitching in games that are close and in games that I can give the team a chance to win," Marshall said. "Hopefully I have a chance to put up a zero in the inning I pitch and give us a chance to take a lead back.”
With the three-game series against the Pittsburgh Pirates starting from Friday, watching Sean Marshall will be another treat.
The Reds will obviously try to have the ultimate dominance in it. Marshall’s role, like all his teammates, would be of crucial importance given the fact that he will have Jonathan Broxton in the bullpen, who was only recently traded from the Kansas City Royals.
