Cincinnati Reds’ rookie Zack Cozart all ready to be in action – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds’ rookie shortstop Zack Cozart stated on Friday, March 2, that he is all ready for the Cactus League game scheduled on Saturday. The repaired left elbow was being deemed to render Cozart unable to appear in the exhibition game.
However, the fact that Cozart fared very well in Spring Training serves as evidence of his fitness and readiness to play. It is pertinent to recall here that the collision that Cozart had in July last year resulted in wiping off the whole season for him.
The collision caused a ligament in his left elbow that eventually required Tommy John surgery, something that had become unavoidable. However, there is a fresh new start for the rookie here and he says he has had no problems in recent times.
"I haven't had any problems," Cozart said on Friday. "I still wear a brace because they want me to wear that at least halfway through the year. Everything feels good and I am ready to go."
If that untoward collision did not occur, Cozart had the potential to emerge as one of the best rookies produced last year. In merely 11 games that he appeared, before undergoing the surgery, had a batting average of .324.
As unfortunate incident as that was, Cozart in the recent months has gone a long way to recover and get some form back. The injury might have dealt a serious blow, but the team manager thinks Cozart is getting back into fitness.
"He's getting more natural, I've noticed," Reds’ manager Dusty Baker said. "He was more guarded in the beginning, which is natural. The further you get away from the injury, the more natural you become. You can you're not thinking about it. I don't care
who you are, it's on your mind some."
Cozart, before appearing in Major League Baseball, had appeared in 77 games to have a .310 batting average whereby he had 32 RBIs to his credit with seven homers. Now that he is almost back, it will be interesting to see how he performs in the 2012 regular
season.
