Cincinnati Reds show interest in centre fielder Michael Bourn – MLB Update
Cincinnati Reds are showing great interest in free agent centre fielder Michael Bourn.
Bourn played this past season with the Atlanta Braves. However, now he has filed for free agency which enables him to sign with any team in the Major League.
“We saw him on the waiver wire and felt he would improve our depth in the outfield,” Braves' general manager Frank Wren said in detail and talked in detail about the development front office is making. “It doesn’t affect how we pursue or try to put together our team this winter. But he’s very talented. He has above-average talent in three areas – run, throw and defend.”
Finishing with .274 hitting average along with nine homers, 57 RBIs and .348 OBP, Bourn certainly accomplished to seek the attention of all the leading MLB franchises including the Reds.
The Braves, whom Bourn has represented this past season, also seemed interested on a new contract with him but still is not confirmed as Braves' management want a potential starter instead spending on Bourn’s new deal.
Reds finished with a top spot in the National League Central Division achieving 97-65 win-loss along with .599 winning percentage but despite this wonderful result in the regular season, they could not do well in the post-season and lost early in disgrace.
As soon as the Reds’ came out humiliated from the playoffs, their management sat down and started well. After a conventional evaluation of all the players and later discovering that their outfield played with a defensive approach as it caused them an early exit from the 2012 Major League Baseball playoffs.
Now the team has experienced all the bad patches they had in the recent regular as well in post-season which is paving their way to bring some changes in the outfield and bringing Bourn is also a fact behind their new strategic plan.
Michael Bourn on the other hand, is considered one of the best outfielders in the league. He has been performing in the league since 2006 and played for the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros as well.
