Cincinnati Reds sneak past St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 – MLB Update
Cincinnati Reds defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 3-1 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, October 2 at Busch Stadium in St. Louis.
Reds’ entire roster played well and earned a great victory. They started well and finished the game on a high note.
“I'm sending them home, They need to get some rest. I think they realized how special this is, You can't take these for granted. We were talking about it being kind of subdued and it was, but they're still proud. And had every right to be," rookie manager Mike Matheny said.
Matheny added, "What is there not to like about him? I mean, what more can he do? It's kind of lined up that way and we've had that in line for a while."
Reds played as one unit and rattled the Cardinals’ in a big way. It was a combined effort by the Reds’ players who kept the Cardinals under pressure throughout the game and won in style.
"We don't know if it's going to be advantageous to get first, second or third, or the wild card, Right now, this is all new,” manager Dusty Baker said.
From their starting pitchers to offensive batters, all played their part in the Reds’ great victory. Especially starter Mat Latos pitched with great energy and literally won the game for his team.
He pitched five solid innings and received four hits and one run. He struck-out four while he remained consistent on his 3.48 ERA.
Relief pitcher Sam LeCure also did well on the mound as he pitched 1.1 innings and did not give any run on one hit. He struck-out one while he maintained his ERA at 3.14.
On the other hand, the Cardinals’ played under pressure during the entire game. Their pitchers and hitters were held with great pressure by the Reds’ tough tactics.
Chris Carpenter pitched six innings but he just could not maintain his focus on the Reds’ batters which outplayed him in every area. He received three runs and allowed seven hits along with a homer on 3.71 ERA.
