Cincinnati Reds stage a comeback to beat Houston Astros 5-3 – MLB Update

The Cincinnati Reds on Sunday, September 2, had a tremendous fifth inning to beat the Houston Astros 5-3, winning the three-game series 2-1 at Minute Maid Park, Houston. The Reds’ offence came into action in the fifth with Jay Bruce’s magnificent three-run homer.
The Astros who seemed to have held their grip tight on the game could not quite continue it. Bruce turned the table, frustrating the Astros which remain at the bottom of the National League Central ranking, as the Reds occupy the top slot.
The credit, obviously, went to Bruce who made it possible with his majestic hit, drawing praise by the team manager Dusty Baker. "He's learning how to hit," Baker said. "His average still isn't where he wants it to be, but he's learning to make them put the ball up and not chasing down."
It was the Astros' Brian Bogusevic who laid a supposedly strong foundation for the Astros with his fifth inning single, giving the Astros a 1-0 lead. Martinez hit a triple in the seventh to make it 2-0 for the team as Tyler Greene had a solo homer, giving a 3-0 lead to the Astros.
While Bronson Arroyo, the Reds' starter gave a run in his six innings, it was Jose Arredondo, who gave up two runs to the Astros' resurgent hitters.
Bud Norris, the Astros starter did not give up any run in his six innings. But the eighth inning changed everything as Bruce smashed three-run homers against Hector Ambriz, levelling the score for the first time in the game. "It was a chance for redemption there," he said. "It worked out this time."
Chris Heisey followed with his double to left and Miguel Cairo came up with a double to deep left, adding a run each to take the lead to 5-3.
Aroldis Chapman then came up with yet another solid ninth, saving the 26th game of the season, and ensure the Reds 5-3 win.
The Reds, with the victory, now have a nine and a half game lead in the National League Central with a three-game series to play against the Philadelphia Phillies.
