Cincinnati Reds thrash Houston Astros with 8-3 win – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds on Monday, July 23, made a perfect start of the three-game series against the Houston Astros to beat them 8-3 at Minute Maid Park, Houston. The Reds’ offence had a blitz to outshine the Astros.
While every player seemed in marvellous form, it was the Reds’ Todd Frazier and Ryan Ludwick who had three-hits coupled with two RBIs each to ensure the team’s victory.
"We got some big hits tonight," Baker said. "Their record isn't good right now but they never quit. You can see, they kept fighting and fighting and we had to add on some more runs and get out of some tough jams and got the win."
The Reds’ Mat Latos went for five strong innings, giving up eight hits and two runs with 4.30 ERA. Latos sprained his ankle during the game, but said afterwards that he was he was fine.
"I felt it the rest of the inning, especially the last couple of pitches," he said. "But it's fine now."
On the other hand, Wandy Rodriguez of the Astros allowed three runs in his six-inning spell. Losing another game, Rodriguez was also asked about the ongoing rumours about his trade deadline.
"I have no control of that," Rodriguez said. "I don't know what's going to happen with me, so I only wait. I don't know what decision the organization (is going to make)."
Frazier had a single in the first inning to give the team 1-0 lead followed by Ryan Ludwick’s double to left, making it 2-0 for the Reds. Chris Heisey tripled the lead in the same inning which was reciprocated by back-to-back runs of Astros’ Scott Moore and Chris Johnson.
But the Reds came back with Scott Rolen and Jay Bruce’s respective runs in seventh inning while another single by Ludwick, a double by Frazier and Ryan Hanigan made it 8-2 for the Reds. Marwin Gonzalez scored a single in the eighth to bring the lead down to 8-3.
But Sean Marshall threw a scoreless ninth to finish the game with 8-3 win for the Reds, making a perfect start of three-game series.
