Cincinnati Reds to celebrate Barry Larkin Night – MLB News
As Barry Larkin was formally feted with the honour of becoming another eminent member of the Baseball Hall of Fame this week, his team the Cincinnati Reds intends to hold a Barry Larkin Night this year. The date of highly anticipated event, however, has
not been announced.
The moment of glory came to the former short-stop on Monday when he received more than 84 percent of the votes for the Hall of Fame. He, it is to be specifically mentioned here, is the 24th short-stop in baseball’s history to make his way into
this elite list.
Also, his selection made him the 11th member to be chosen by Baseball Writers’ Association of America. What set this player apart from his contemporaries, even to the new generation, is the average of .295 with 960 RBIs that he maintained.
If that was not enough, the player had 198 homers to his credit, with no less than .371 on-base percentage, 2,340 hits and 370 stolen bases. Also, the player remains the fourth member of the Hall of Fame to spend his entire career with the same team.
For Larkin, the last two days events have been simply majestic. While he intends to celebrate the occasion with the Cincinnati fans, the initial moments of joys were shared with his family members.
"These last two days have been an absolute blur," Larkin said. "Strategically, Lisa and I decided that today was going to be the day that we came to Cincinnati. All the other stuff, we got out of the way. We could take a deep breath. We could come to Cincinnati
and set up how we're going to celebrate this induction with the city of Cincinnati. And that's important.”
While it remains a personal accolade for him, he attributes it all to the team he had always remained affiliated with: The Cincinnati Reds. "Yes, this is a personal accolade for me, but I'm a product of the environment that's been set up for me."
Larkin had offers from several teams, including the St. Louis Cardinals, but he always chose to remain with the Reds
