Cincinnati Reds to take on Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday in three-game series – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds will have a three-game series against Arizona Diamondbacks starting Monday, August 27. The Reds which were outdone by the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday in the three-game series will be looking to retain their first position in the National League Central.
Even though the Reds are clearly way ahead than the Cardinals who are six games behind, the latter will have a tough competition here against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Arizona stand third in the National League West behind the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Reds are currently in one of the longest stretches of games which will end on Thursday, wherein they will have played 34 games in 34 days. The wearing down is a likely prospect for many players, but overall the team has done its best to retain its dominance.
This aspect was addressed by the team manager after the team’s defeat in the series against the Cardinals.
"It's been a tough stretch for us," manager Dusty Baker said. "We've got three more days and then we have an off-day. We've had two days off since the All-Star break. We just have to push and push these next three days until we're off."
Dusty Baker, nonetheless, hoped that the club will have a good road trip. "These are big games on the road for us in order to get some momentum to come back home," said Baker. "We've been a good road team and I don't see why we won't have a good road trip."
All said, Baker was also proud of his players who had a tremendously consistent performance in this run. Enduring as it will remain, the series against the Diamondbacks will have to be good enough for the Reds.
They want to maintain the lead in the NL Central so as to easily make it into the playoffs. With the rotation, bullpen and powerful offence at hand, the Reds can attain that. Consistency will remain key as well as the perseverance of the players as the Reds have outdone their rivals this season so far.
