Cincinnati Reds want Bill Bray to be ‘over-ready’ – MLB News
While injuries seem to have zoomed in on the Cincinnati Reds, the team manager Dusty Baker said on Saturday, June 16, that he wants Bill Bray to be over-ready prior to becoming the active part of the line-up.
Bill Bray is continuing rehabilitation these days after strained left groin left to his seemingly endless stint in the disabled list. It was on April 24 that the player was put in the disabled list; since then Bray is exerting and struggling to make his way back into the active roster.
However, the signs are that Bray has recuperated and is all set to add strength to the team. The recovery is not only timely but also encouraging for the Reds which want him in the bullpen sooner than later.
Be that as it may, Bray, Dusty Baker maintains, he wants the player to be over-ready for the games once he is back. That is why the team is giving him ample amount of time to rejoin the team with complete fitness.
Dusty Baker made a reference to this point when he spoke of Bray in Saturday’s talk to the press. "We want to make sure Bray is not only ready, but over-ready," Baker said. "The bullpen has been pretty tight and we want him to come in and complement things. ... It's always nice to have one more lefty."
The promising signs, as far as Bray is concerned, started appearing on Friday when he pitched on Friday for Louisville. Although, in the strict sense of the word, the performance may not be up to the mark, the fact that he has gained enough strength to pitch makes him all ready for playing sooner than later.
The concerns and worries will definitely remain over complete fitness, but his being back will solidify the Reds’ defence at this crucial stage. The Reds have performed extraordinarily well this season, making a strong case for the possible entry into the postseason games.
Whether that happens or not is something best left to conjecture, for now, it is the fitness of the players that outweighs all other concerns.
