Cincinnati Reds yet to decide the callups for September – MLB News
The Cincinnati Reds' manager Dusty Baker said on Monday, August 27, that the club has not decided the names for September callups yet. With the option to expand the roster on September 1 as the Reds are considering different names.
There are indications that the club shall wait for the end of Triple-A Louisville season which is scheduled to end on September 3. But the team manager made it manifestly clear that the club has not decided on the final names yet.
"We haven't really nailed it down yet. We'll talk about it," Reds' manager Dusty Baker said on Monday. "There have been some names mentioned."
The likely strategy will be to bring in the players with edge over their fellows. For now, given the track record of the Reds, they seem all set to easily make it into playoffs, being in the possession of Division title given their consistency and winning record.
The team manager, in this regard, made it clear that the deserving ones will get their name enlisted in the line-up.
"It depends on what you need and who deserves it," Baker said. "Last year at this time, we were seeing what they could do, so to speak. Now we're in a different position. Now they're in a position to help, not necessarily to be seen."
The Reds, as it could be seen since the start of the season, have held their dominance in almost all aspects of the game in the National League in general and in the National League Central Division in particular. From the rotation to bullpen to the extraordinary defence, the Reds have held their ground magnificently well.
With playoffs nearing and the regular season coming to an end, it is the consistency of the Reds that will ensure their triumph. With the kind of team they have this time, there is the likelihood of making it to the World Series.
But if history is anything to go by, disappointment may ensue if luck is not on the team’s side; the biggest example last year being the Philadelphia Phillies which despite a fantastic record could not make it to the World Series.
