Cincinnati Reds yet to make a 25-man roster for National League Division Series – MLB News
Cincinnati Reds' general manager Walt Jocketty acknowledged on Wednesday, September 25, the difficulties being faced for formulating a 25-man roster for the National League Division Series. Jocketty is required to present the 25-man roster as the NLDS is coming near.
Part of the reason why the Reds are facing difficulty in formulating the roster is that the opponent facing the club in NLDS is not known yet. St. Louis Cardinals and the Milwaukee Brewers are running for Wild Card berth and whichever team prevails will face the Reds in the NLDS.
Other than that, two other strong contenders for it are the San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers. With strong candidacy and tough rivalry that will likely be at play during the NLDS, everything has to be put together carefully.
That is where the challenge comes to the fore, something that the general manager alluded to on Wednesday while speaking about the roster.
"It will be tough. It's also nice because we have some depth this year," Jocketty said on Wednesday. "But it will be tough, especially with the pitching when we get down to the end. We've talked about it, and we'll talk about it some more. We'll make our final decision next week when we know who we're playing."
Also, pertinent to mention is the fact that manager Dusty Baker is recovering from the minor stroke he had last week. In his absence, it is bench coach Chris Speier who is working as acting manager for now.
For each round of the postseason, there has to be a roster which the clubs can reset once it has passed. Reds are for now deliberating over the names that ought to figure in the list, competitive enough to confront the rivals.
"We had a meeting yesterday and talked a little bit more about it today," Jocketty said. "We won't get into the final stuff until next week in St. Louis."
Reds are now awaiting the result of the Wild Card as well as the arrival of the team manager Dusty Baker who is recuperating to make the final roster.
