Cincinnati Reds yet to name the pitchers for rotation
The Cincinnati Reds manager Dusty Baker said on Thursday, March 29, that the team has not decided on the name of Aroldis Chapman as part of the rotation. Chapman is an aspirant for the fifth spot in the Reds rotation with other players in tough contest.
"I don't know, man," Reds manager Dusty Baker said. "We haven't come up with [the answer] yet. Honestly, we have not decided yet. There are more people involved here than just Chapman."
Chapman had a lot to offer in Thursday’s game whereby he threw 89 pitches in the five inning spell. The Reds pitcher went on to allow two runs, seven hits with no walks.
Over the five big league games that this pitcher has had so far, he has maintained 2.12 ERA with 18 strikeouts to his credit. With such a strong performance on display, the team manager finds Chapman’s spring excellent as he has worked real hard, and everything
is positive about him.
Chapman himself is quite happy with the way things have gone so far. His aim, prior to the commencement of the spring training, was to work on his command. He seems to have achieved that.
"I feel real happy with the way things went in camp," said Chapman through interpreter Tomas Vera. "Being able to have a less amount of walks, it was my goal when I came to Spring Training -- to work on my command."
His performance, in fact, was so impressive on Thursday that even the Brewers team manager admitted to it. In his view, Chapman ‘ the starter looked just like Chapman the reliever’. With such an impression that Chapman has created, he will indeed be a tough
challenge for the rival teams.
As the Opening Day game draws near, it will be closely observed who the Cincinnati Reds name as the No. 5 as part of the rotation. With competition stiffening, Chapman might have another game before the start of the season to evince his talent and effectiveness
as the starter.
Chapman’s being in rotation will add to the strength of the Reds’ offence. It is to be seen what does the team eventually decide upon.
