Cincinnati Women’s Open 2010: Maria Sharapova, Kim Clijsters And Vera Zvonareva Win Matches
The United States Open winner Kim Clijster defeated the former top ranked tennis player from the women’s side, Dinara Safina in a total of two sets on Wednesday in the Cincinnati Women’s Open tennis competition. The final match score was 7-5, 6-2. In another match, the Russian tennis ace, Maria Sharapova knocked down Andrea Petkovic in a two setter clash during the second round, which was even interrupted as a result of rain. The final match score was 6-3, 6-1.
The sixth seeded tennis ace, Vera Zvonareva in her three hour twenty eight minute second round clash, also managed to thrash Maria Kirilenko on Wednesday. The final match score was 7-5, 2-6, 7-6 (3).
Bot Russians faced great problems due to rainy conditions however in the end Vera did well to grab victory in Cincinnati. After the match she said, “I am completely aware of my talent and flair more than anyone else and so even when I was down at points, I didn’t lose hope and give up as I know I have the ability to come back in the game”.
As a result of this victory, Vera Zvonareva will face the eleventh seeded Flavia Pennetta in the third round of the Cincinnati Women’s Open tennis competition. When commenting on her match against the Russian, which was the longest one day tennis match (over three hours long as a result of rain), Vera said, “It was definitely the longest one day match that I have played so far in my career”.
In another match, the third seeded tennis ace, Elena Dementieva was completely upset, by the twenty fifth ranked Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6-1, 5-3.
“I simply had nothing to lose; therefore I played without any pressure at all and thoroughly enjoyed the clash. I did manage to focus well throughout the match. Although I had a couple of chances in my previous encounters with her as well however I didn’t manage to win as a result of feeling that extra pressure. But, this time, I did well not to repeat my mistake and thankfully played with a greater degree of accuracy and consistency. Moreover, she didn’t start well enough and so I took full advantage of it”, Pavlyuchenkova commented after the match.
On the other hand, the sixth ranked tennis ace from the women’s side, Elena Dementieva after her defeat said, “I played badly after a long time in today’s match. I just felt that I didn’t focus well enough and lost my concentration as I was not mentally ready for the match”.
Pavlyuchenkova, as a result of this victory will meet the thirteen seeded tennis star Shahar Peer in her next round match in Cincinnati. Peer reached the next round of the tournament after bringing down Nuria Llagostera Vives in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6-3, 6-2.
In another match, the second seeded tennis ace, Caroline Wozniacki in a total of fifty one minutes defeated Sybille Bammer during their match on Wednesday, in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-0, 6-2. Sybille committed a total of twenty eight unforced errors in contrast to four by Caroline.
Agnieska Radwanska, the seventh seeded player also reached the met round of the Cincinnati tennis tournament 2010 after knocking down Alisa Kleybanova in a two setter clash. The final match score was 6-4, 6-1.
Christina McHale gained a 6-2, 6-4 victory over Ayumi Morita to book a third round clash with Kim Clisjters. In another match, the French Open winner Francesca Schiavone was surprisingly hammered down by Elena Vesnina in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-4, 6-4.
