Cincinnati tennis tournament 2010: Ana Ivanovic defeated Victoria Azarenka
The professional tennis player from the women’s side, Ana Ivanovic won her first round match of the Cincinnati Open against the ninth seeded, Victoria Azarenka on Tuesday. The final match score was 2-6 7-6 (8-6) 6-2.
The former top ranked tennis ace, Ana has dropped down in World rankings to as low as number sixty-two, as a result of her injuries and poor performances recently. The Serbian has so far reached a total of two semi final rounds this season.
However, as far as her Cincinnati performance is concerned, Ana did pretty well to defeat the inform Victoria in a time period of two-hours and fourteen minutes. The World number sixty-five, Ana was kicked out in round number One of the San Diego tournament last week. However, she successfully managed to come back strongly after losing the first set in the Cincinnati Tennis competition against the 2010 Bank of the West Classic champion. As a result of this victory, Ana will face the thirty-two ranked Yaroslava Shvedova in her next match of the competition. Yaroslava Shvedova in her opening round of the Cincinnati defeated Alla Kudryavtseva to book her place against Ana.
In another match, the former number one women’s tennis player, Dinara Safina hammered past Roberta Vinci at the Cincinnati Open tennis tournament in a total of two sets. The final match score was 7-5, 6-4. Safina will play her next match of the competition against United States Open winner Kim Clijsters, who has not participated in any tournament after the grass court Grand Slam event last month at the All England Club. Kim couldn’t pass the quarterfinal stage of the 2010 Wimbledon. She received a round number one bye at the Cincinnati event along with the last year winner as well as top seeded player Jelena Jankovic. Jelena has yet to play her opening match of the competition against the seventy-first ranked tennis ace, Vera Dushevina, who defeated Anastasia Rodionova in her first round match. The final match score was 6-2, 7-6 (7).
Kim Clijsters while commenting on her opening match of the Cincinnati competition said that, “I am really looking forward to play here at the Cincinnati tennis competition as it is going to be my very first tournament since the grass court Grand Slam event”, she added.
As far as Ivanovic’s recent performances are concerned, she departed early in the San Diego tennis tournament after her first round defeat at the hands of Shahar Peer. Therefore, this win over Victoria is really a welcoming one for the female tennis ace.
Ana while commenting on her victory after the match said that, " The crowd really boosted up my confidence and supported me throughout my match”, she added.
"It was really amazing as a lot of young girls and boys were there to support me”.
"It is one of my biggest victories as I was not performing well over the recent past and lost a couple of important matches therefore this victory is very precious to me”, she added.
On the other hand, the second ranked tennis player from the women’s side, Jelena Jankovic is also looking forward to her opening clash of the Cincinnati tennis tournament after receiving a first round bye.
The twenty-five year old Serbian tennis ace who was facing an ankle injury since the last month while commenting on her current form said, “I am perfectly alright now and ready to compete in the Cincinnati tennis tournament”.
Jankovic will meet Vera Dushevina in her opening match of the tournament.
