Cinderkamp delights jockey Patrick Dobbs in the Al Taweelah Handicap on 22nd January at Abu Dhabi
Cinderkamp won the AED 75,000 Al Taweelah Handicap on Sunday, 22nd January, at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, raced over a distance of 1,200 metres.
The trainee of Doug Watson was ridden by Patrick Dobbs on a field of twelve.
Doug Watson’s other entry in the race, Musaalem, finished fourth with Richard Hills.
Al Muhairi trained Fityaan, finished second under Tadhg O’Shea by a head’s margin and third in line after the winner was Garbah, trained by Al Raihe.
This turned out to be Patrick Dobbs’s twenty-fifth ride after the arm injury from which he had been recovering since September 2011.
He said:
"Cinderkamp is a new, young horse in the yard and ran well enough on his local debut on dirt at Jebel Ali. He improved for that outing and has done it nicely enough this evening”, said Patrick Dobbs.
"It was frustrating missing the end of the summer in Europe, as well as the start of the season here, and I had to miss Jebel Ali a fortnight ago when my shoulder was playing up but hopefully it's full steam ahead now”.
This was the first time that Cinderkamp was ridden by Patrick Dobbs.
This marked the second attempt of the four-year-old at the Carnival, and the debut win of the new season. Before this, on 13th January, 2012, he was seventh in the Shadwell Farm Handicap at the Jebel Ali, while he was being
ridden by Ted Durcan.
From the six starts that he had made in 2011, he was successful in two, being paired with Jamie Spencer on both the instances.
Cinderkamp won the Haas-Tek/PPM LTD Services & Sales Handicap on 4th June, 2011, at Newcastle where he was sent as the 9 to 4 favourite. The five furlong track was raced over by six participants.
Next he won the Parry & Co Solicitors Annual Handicap on 15th July, 2011, at Haydock, yet again he was sent as the favourite, with the odds of 13 to 2.
He was entered as a favourite third time in a row, but could not attain a hat-trick, as Cinderkamp was placed third in the Boylesports Mobile Handicap on 23rd July, 2011, at Newmarket.
