Circa defeated Equuleus to move into Monty Waterbury Cup semi-final: 10-7 – Polo Update
Magoo Laprida scored seven times and had an assist, as Circa marked a 10-7 win over Equuleus in the quarter-final match of the Monty Waterbury Cup played at the Bridgehampton Polo Club in California.
Kris Kampsen – the six-goal handicap player from Equuleus while talking to the media after the game expressed disappointment saying that he failed to play a role for the squad.
Circa and Equuleus – the two teams opened up the game quite brilliantly, as the winning team would go for the next step towards the title-clash encounter. The team of Circa received a single handicap goal but failed to get any score from the field in the
first seven and half minutes of play. From the other side, the Equuleus strikers marked outstanding start and obtained couple of goals. Kris Kampsen notched the first two goals of which one scored from the field while other through a penalty conversion. The
opening chukka was completed with Equuleus hanging onto the lead at 2-1.
In the second chukka, Magoo Laprida scored his first goal of the game and had it all even at two-each. In the later time, Kampsen notched one more goal and regained a solitary goal lead. Laprida was not ready to give up, as he marked a goal from the field
and tied the knots at three-all.
Martin Pepa scored a field goal while his team-mate Laprida converted a penalty shot to establish their dominance over the field. On the other side, the strong defence from Circa kept Equuleus at bay and closed out the first half with holding a two-goal,
5-3 advantage.
After the half-time short break, the speed of the game reduced and both sides started a cautious game. Only a single goal was scored and that belonged to Equuleus. Mariano Obregon did score the goal and decreased the Circa lead down to a single goal.
In the second last frame, Circa and Equuleus swapped a couple of goals and increased the enchantment. Laprida and Pepa scored one goal apiece for Circa while Kampsen answered it with a brace of goals to remain in the game. Equuleus was trailing by two goals,
7-6 with one chukka left to play.
Circa continued the action in the final seven minutes of play and marked three goals while holding Equuleus only for a single goal. Kampsen unfolded the final frame with a penalty conversion and tied the knots at seven-all.
However, Laprida cranked up his offence in the final minutes and scored off three penalty shots. With three goals, the Circa team won the match at 10-7.
