Circa edges out KIG to book a place in Hampton Cup semi-finals: 13-10 – Polo Update
Magoo Laprida scored six times and had an assist, as Circa marked a 13-10 win over KIG in the last round match of the Hampton Cup being contested at the Bridgehampton Polo Club in California. With this three-goal victory, the Circa team obtained a spot in
the semi-final competition against Heathcote.
Nacho Figueras, the six-goal handicap player of KIG spoke with the media after losing the crucial match and said that everything went the wrong way in the game. He further said, “Everything that could go wrong, did go wrong. A bad bounce, the ball hit a
horse’s leg on its way to goal, a teammate turns the wrong way. It was a disaster.”
The team Circa opened the game in quite impressive way, as they received a goal in the head of handicap while Magoo Laprida doubled the tally through a penalty conversion. However, the team playing on the other end was also not ready to give up. Michel Dorignac
scored off a couple of penalty shots and brought KIG into the score-net. The first seven and half minutes of play was concluded with both teams holding a two-all deadlock.
The second period was completely belonged to KIG which obtained three goals while holding Circa goalless in the period. Luis Escobar notched a couple of goals while his team-mate Bash Kazi took the lead up to three after the two periods, 5-2.
Circa proved their worth in the third set of play and showed KIG how to turn the tables within a short span of time. Laprida did lead the action and added four goals in the total six goals. Martin Pepa opened the account and marked two goals to take an insurmountable
three-goal lead, 8-5.
In the second half, Laprida continued the fast paced game and obtained the sixth goal of the day through penalty conversion. From the other side, Escobar and Dorignac added one each and completed the action with KIG trailing by two goals.
Pepa added another goal in the second last frame which was replied by a penalty shot in the hands of Dorignac. In the concluding moments, Guille Aguero notched a couple of goals and expanded the advantage at 12-8 with seven minutes left to play.
In the last seven minutes of play, both the teams exhibited a wonderful show and enthralled the onlookers. Escobar scored a couple of goals of which one scored on penalty shot while other from the field. However, the players from Circa were not in mood to
give KIG any chance for making a comeback. Martin Pepa added another score and sealed the victory at 13-10.
