Circle Of Angels to bounce back in Charnwood Handicap at Leicester
Circle Of Angels’ latest failure in the mud at Ffos Las can be forgiven, as she did a lot of business prior to that. The Ian Williams-trained showed a few very decent performances early in the season and with favourable conditions at Leicester, she has an obvious chance of putting up a fine effort in the Charnwood Handicap on Tuesday, September 4th.
After a couple of unfortunate defeats at the start of this season, the 4-year-old finally got it right at Doncaster in late June. On Doncaster’s stiff one mile and 2½ furlongs, she made a wonderful effort despite failing to lead early on. The 7-2 favourite stayed on well to challenge the leader inside the final furlong, and edged left to lead in the last 100 yards.
In the hands of Jamie Spencer, the filly stretched her advantage, seizing the first place by half a length. She ran equally well at Pontefract in July, when finding only a couple of runners too strong. Sending her out on Ffos Las’ soft surface turned out to be a poor move, as the filly was completely unable to handle the mud.
The conditions were too testing, thus no one can take anything away from her. Today’s class 5 meeting offers her a firm ground, and it will be a massive plus. Owned and bred by R. S. Brookhouse, the daughter of Royal Applause is facing nine high profile rivals, and therefore needs to give her best shot.
The officials will start the affair at 16:15 GMT. The race will be run over one mile, three furlongs and 183 yards. It carries a cash prize of £2,264.
Out of others, Bouggatti looks to have the best chance. Winning two of last three races tells the story of his current form. Lady Herries’s trainee recently demonstrated a fantastic show at Folkestone, beating Mollyow by 3½ lengths in the Ladbrokes.com Amateur Riders' Handicap.
Bouggatti is in very good shape, and will not let anyone enjoy the party comfortably. Nonetheless, the preference is for Circle Of Angels, who is having ideal conditions to play with. Good luck to all the runners.
