Circle Y....help! How much do you think this would be worth?

I've had a HORRIBLE (and I mean horrible) time finding a saddle to fit my horse, Sonny. I've tried on at least 10 saddles and NONE have fit. Finally I tried on my BO's daughters show western saddle and it fit! I'm soooo happy and since her daughter never rides anymore, nor does that saddle even fit her horse. I e-mailed her and asked her permission to use the saddle and added that if she ever wanted to sell the saddle let me know (hopefully that will give her the hint that I want to buy it...thought it was rude to just go out and say "can I buy your saddle?")

Anyways, I don't think she'd ask much for it, but I wanted to see what everyone thought would be reasonible to ask for it.

On another forum, they said around $500-$750, and when I asked a friend she said $1000.

Pictures will be in next post....thanks!

  1. Kinda depends on your area...

I've seen immaculate 2nd hand with silver go for only $600.

I purchased mine that has more tooling than that one...for $200...I know...a total steal!!  But the market is depressed where I am and the owner wanted to sell.  That was his price, and I didn't even think about trying to negotiate!

For that one...I would hope to only pay around $400-$500.  It's brand does reflect the price.  But ya never know...you might get an awesome deal.

One word of caution...told to me by a saddler...because they use ralide trees...make SURE the tree is not broken.  Mine looked and felt great...and the quality of the leather and stitching held it together tight.  But the tree was still broken.  The saddler told me that most of his business was replacing ralide trees.  You may not run into that problem if the saddle was not dropped often or a horse didn't flip over with it.  But it pays to be safe than sorry.  Or the saddle costs you more...because you had to have the tree replaced.

My $200 Circle Y...ended up actually costing over $400 when the saddler was done.

On a good note...GREAT that you found one that fit him!!!!

  2. I agree with the first poster, It does look used and it also looks like it needs a good cleaning. Circle Y is a great western brand, I'd say anywhere from $500-$650 is all I'd be willing to pay based on what it looks like and the condition it is in. I'd see how it fits and how it rides and settle on something from there with the owner.

  3. It looks a little used and abused, but a lot of that could be solved with a little saddle soap and elbow grease. Since it is a Circle Y, I would say around $500 or so would be right. Circle Y is a very good brand and the price is reflective of that.

  4. $200 - 350

good luck selling it and i know what you mean about finding a saddle that fits!

  5. I'd say about 600

  6. I bought a circle y that look similar to this one, it was dirty molded and needed a really good clean. I only payed 200 for it, but it came with a saddle rack, blanket, and a girth. But after i clean it up and gave it a good shine, i seen the same one on ebay got for $900 used. So i really did get a steal on my saddle, I would offer your friend 250 tops for it. That one looks a little rough.
