Circle of Brooms - from Practical Magic?

From the movie practical magic, they create a circle of brooms. Was that made up, or could I make a circle with brooms?

Why? For what purpose? In magic, a broom is used to sweep away negativity from sacred space. To create a circle with brooms doesn't really do anything, besides who owns that many brooms? I'm a witch and I have only one broom.

My suggestion is to get some books that aren't fiction if you want to practice magic.  So far you've mentioned Charmed and now Practical Magic.  Don't get me wrong I enjoyed them as fiction but I would never consider using them to decide how I practice.

There's no reason in magic to do it but there's also no reason why you couldn't.  I don't base my practice on hollywood's useless misconceptions.

You can make a circle from what ever you want to, the question is, what is your circle for? Now, first, brooms are used for a lot more than just sweeping a circle. That is their most mundane use. They can also be used like a wand or athame and be used to direct energy. They can be used to symbolically to represent both female-the brush part- and male- the pole part- connected and used in fertility spells or wedding ceremonies. In the movie, they were shown used as a barrier that the spirit could not pass through. Aside from the fact that it's in a movie, it's actually not a bad representation of the uses of the broom. Most brooms used in rituals have very important uses, not just for sweeping. Those were used as a barrier and as for sweeping away the bad stuff. Research the history and uses of the besom or broom. It is in some cases considered the most important of a witches tools. It is one of the most versatile.

you can make a circle of brooms.... dont know if it would work the way it worked in the movie.  but sure, you can always put brooms in a circle if that's what you felt like doing.

the point of the brooms in the movie was a protection circle.  i think you can do the same with salt...
