  1. I am a paramedic and had to study the circulatory system. For 1 and 2 it is the heart. The heart accounts for all the blood flow in the body, as blood is forced from the heart into the aretries and thus into the lungs and into the veins back to the heart (but it is the left ventricle of the heart for arteries and right ventricle for veins. 3. there are VALVES in all veins to prevent back flow into the lungs. 4. Need of oxygenation in the lungs.
