Circumcision and male / female equality?

Why is it a criminal offense to have a baby girl circumsized while the circumcision of baby boys is legal?

Shouldn't boys and girls have equal rights?

Yes, there is supposed to be equal protection under the law, and equal rights for both sexes.

It's apparent from some of the other answers that people still have a hard time understanding that genital mutilation is genital mutilation, whether perpetrated on males or females.

Females DO have something to circumcise.   Female circumcision doesn't always remove the clitoris.     The clitoral hood is exactly like the male f******n---they are analagous structures--any anatomy book will tell you that.    Since when is the v****a so sacrosanct that it's illegal to even prick it with a pin, yet it's open season on the male p***s?

Obviously the medical profession, with so many of them members of the minority religious groups trying to impose this mutilation on others, is mainly responsible for spreading this abomination.

Tying down infant boys, assaulting them and mutilating their genitals, often without anaesthetic ("they won't remember it") is brutal, cruel and barbaric in the extreme.     The infants wouldn't remember being raped, either, but would that justify infant rape?    It's the same thing.

Watch one of the circumcision videos on the internet; if you're normal, it'll  make you sick to your stomach.     They don't allow such treatment of animals in the USA.

Victims of male genital mutilation, AKA circumcision should come forward and begin suits against the monsters, the doctors and the hospitals assaulting  males.     Most states have such a provision for suits, up to the age of 18-21.    I'm too old, otherwise I would have sued the infant molesters for everything they have.

Males need to stand up and demand equal rights and equal protection under the law.     Bring suit against the butchers, and make them pay for what they've done to us.

A f******n is not a birth defect; it is a birthright.

Circumcision isn't about equal rights.  Girls technically have nothing to circumcise.  In countries where a similar procedure is done on girls it is actually mutilation.  Where on males, it started as a sign of a covenant between God and his chosen people and has continued as a choice by the parents for hygiene.  It is also know to help prevent to spread of HIV/AIDS

HOLY COW MAN!! Female circumcision is a horrible and brutal act. It removes the clitoris completely and is done with out anesthesia.

Female circumcision (hoodectomy clitoral unhooding) (http://www.clitoralunhooding.com/ ) is analogous to male circumcision and is  a fairly common plastic surgery done at the woman's request.  What most people call female circumcision is actual female genital mutilation and involves different levels from a hoodectomy to clitoral removal to labia removal and sewing the v****a almost completely shut.

This is very controversial, but you have to look at it for what its worth.

Many parents get their baby boys circumcized because they feel it's a medically wise decision.  A large majority of the medical community advocates it, as it cut cut the risk of contracting HIV, and a lot of UTIs during childhood.

It's also a lot easier for parents to clean (or so, some think)

No medical professional has ever given a reason to circumcize baby girls.

Because they aren't equivalent.  Male circumcision removes the f******n so equivalent to that on a female would be removing the hood OVER the clitoris. But that is not what they do. At this time when they say "female circumcision" what they do is remove the CLITORIS.  It is done for a different purpose (to intentionally ruin pleasure for a woman so that she will be more likely to be faithful) and that is a heinous act.  Whoever does a female circumcision should have their p***s amputated (that is the equivalent).

Both FGM and MGM are barbaric, disgusting practices. People who don't see it that way are ignorant of the facts. The cultures that circumcise their girls do it for the same cosmetic and supposed medical reasons that "more civilized" societies (us) use as an excuse to do it to boys. Women in these cultures WANT their daughters circumcised. It's cleaner, better looking, and she will be more pleasing to her husband. FGM is as acceptable to them as MGM is to us and FOR THE SAME REASONS!

Circumcising little boys is just plain sick and perverted. You people just don't see it that way because you think it's normal and healthy. You're misinformed.
