Cirrus Des Aigles in good shape for King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes – Horseracing news
Cirrus Des Aigles seems to be in perfect shape, which puts him in contention for winning the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes (British Champions Series) (Group 1) at Ascot in England at the end of July.
According to the seasoned runner’s trainer Corine Barande-Barbe, “He is very, very well at the moment. He improved for his run at Saint-Cloud and improved with each piece of work afterwards - he has been really impressive. He had a little bit of a belly
a month ago but it's gone now and he is probably more muscular compared to previous years.”
The seven-year-old gelding has got a very good track record, but he has been unable to make a strong impression in the ongoing season, which is a touch disappointing for his camp. However, he has been working hard on his form and fitness, thus his fans will
be hoping for a solid show from him.
Cirrus Des Aigles has appeared in just one race this season, which did not prove to be an ideal one for him, as he failed to meet the expectations of the bookies. He was rated as the evens favourite for the event, but could only finish back in fifth. Although
there seemed to be no apparent injury to him, it was clear that he had put on some extra weight.
Despite that, the French runner did not give up hope and worked really hard with his trainer back home. He now seems to be in very good shape and will definitely be a tough nut to crack in the upcoming event. He appeared in the same race last year too, but
had to settle for the runner up spot behind the might Frankel. However, he will be hoping for change of fortune this time around.
St Nicholas Abbey will be the main threat in the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes, but Barande-Barbe said, “We are set to take on St Nicholas Abbey again but I think that Cirrus Des Aigles might have improved since they met in Dubai. Physically,
he is a long horse and he used to be a bit light but now he looks stronger.”
Both runners will attract a lot of bets from the punters and the race could go either way, as they have the potential to dominate the proceedings.
