Cirrus Des Aigles to give a shot to distort Frankel’s legacy
The 2012 Arc missed the glamour and glitz of many highly polished and acclaimed names in the fraternity, once again proving that it is a race for raw talent ready to get refined. With winners like Solemia, Marienbard and Danedream, the point that the most prestigious French race does not only favour and invite the best in the game has been put through with crystal clarity.
The level of competition wavered quite a bit this time around because the iconic names like Danedream, Snow Fairy, Nathaniel, Cirrus Des Aigles and Frankel withdrew from the race with different agendas taking their toll round the closing of the flat season.
Out of the above mentioned names, the most intriguing is the six-year-old French bay gelding, Cirrus Des Aigles, who has set mind to distort the impeccable record of the unbeaten colt, Frankel, by winning the Champion Stakes title at the Ascot.
The Mme C. Barande-Barbe trained is not the first one who will try bruising the brilliance of the racing sensation. The Aidan O’Brien trained, Excelebration, had been up to it since the last two seasons, and let go only after getting defeated five times with Frankel’s winning margin increasing at every instance.
The only way to for uninterrupted improvement for the six-year-old was to race as much as possible so the connections decided for another race during the meeting.
Cirrus Des Aigles was the favourite winner of the Group 2 Qatar Prix Dollar on 6th October at Longchamp.
Excited about the meeting at the Ascot race course, the proud and confident trainer commented:
"It's a meeting of the best in the world over a mile up to middle distances against the best over ten furlongs up to a mile and a half," she said. "People said Frankel wouldn't stay and he did, so it'll be interesting to see them together. We must also respect the other horses like Nathaniel."
Last season, the bay gelding won the Champion Stakes in partnership with jockey, Christophe Soumillon, and the team defeated the favourite entry, So You Think, by ¾ of a length.
The six-year-old has had an incredible season with jockey, Olivier Peslier, and has proved lucky for both the jockeys.
Whether Cirrus Des Aigles will actually succeed in turning the tables, or would become yet another punch bag for Frankel, will not take very long to become news.
Getting defeated in the final race of the career is the last thing on the mind of the Sir Henry Cecil and the team.
