Cirstea, Hsieh, Schiavone and Zvonareva to play in Moorilla Hobart International 2013 – Tennis News
World number 27, Sorana Cirstea, will be a part of the most influential squad set up to play at the Moorilla Hobart International event in January, 2013. She will be accompanied by the likes of the upcoming star, Su-Wei Hsieh,
of Taiwan who is ranked 25th in the world.
The 22-year-old Romanian has made three appearances in the tournament. She reached the quarter-final in 2008 but couldn’t clear the first stage, two years later. She contested in this year’s edition of the event as well and again
matched her best result by reaching the last eight.
Hsieh, 26-year-old, will make her debut at Hobart in 2013. She will look forward to make a resounding impression that will lift her odds at registering some upsets in the first Grand Slam tournament of the year, the Australian
Open.
Another major entry to the event is the former French Open Champion, Francesca Schiavone, who won the title at Paris in 2010 and returned to the arena to reach the final of the event again in 2011. She is currently ranked at the
35th spot in the latest list issued by the Women Tennis Association. The Italian veteran has played before at Hobart but only lasted two rounds in the event. So, she will be hungry to improve her record at Domain Tennis Centre.
The Tournament Director, Mark Handley, stated in a press release, “We are thrilled to welcome a Grand Slam champion to Hobart. Schiavone definitely adds some star power to our line-up. We provide a competitive stage to the players
to give them vital match practice prior to catapulting themselves into contention at the Australian Open and indeed prepared for the rigours of international competition.”
He further added, “Our 2012 event saw Angelique Kerber and Sara Errani start their year in Hobart and both have finished inside the top 10 players in the world.”
Former world number two, Vera Zvonareva, who struggled from niggling injuries throughout the 2012 season, will also be a part of the group that will contest for the Moorilla Hobart International title. The tournament will be contested
from 4-12 January, 2013.
