Newcastle United’s Senegalese striker Papiss Demba Cisse has expressed his disappointment at missing the 2012 London Olympic Games and has blamed manager Alan Pardew for blocking his dream.
The player was frustrated after watching his national side secure a 1-1 draw against Team Great Britain at Old Trafford on Thursday night and is not happy with the fact that he had to miss out on his Olympic dream.
The Magpies refused to allow the 27-year old striker from competing in the games over fears that he may miss the start of the new Premier League campaign. Tthe striker had been asked by manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew to rest ahead of the new season due to the player’s
importance to the squad.
Cisse joined Newcastle in the winter transfer window last season, and made a huge impact in just six months, establishing himself as one of the best strikers in the English top flight. He managed to score 13 goals in 14 appearances. The ex-Freiburg player
impressed with his goal scoring form and became integral to Pardew’s plans.
He had been called up by Senegal before the start of this month as one of the team’s over-age players. Pardew was however reluctant of allowing him to leave, probably because he could lose him to the African Cup of Nations come next year. Having Cisse out
of the squad twice in a season was something the manager was not prepared to face.
Speaking to the English press, Cisse expressed his disappointment at missing the games and said:
“It was difficult because I wanted to play but I had a discussion with the manager as soon as I got back.”
“I wanted to play for my country, as representing http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Senegal-c3001 is very important to me, but the manager said it was best that I rested.”
“He said it was better for me and I understood his decision.”
The Senegalese striker also spoke about the coming season and his targets.
“God willing, I’ll score a lot more goals this coming season. I scored 30 goals last season for Newcastle and Freiburg but I’m not setting a target this time.”
