Newcastle United beat Swansea City 2-0 in a Premier League match on Friday, after the Magpies striker Papiss Cisse slotted two goals at the Liberty Stadium.
The victory lifted Alan Pardew’s side to the fifth place in the league table, ahead of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786. However, the Blues will have a say about it on Saturday, when they host Wigan Athletic at Stamford Bridge.
The Senegalese striker was yet again the star performer for the Toon, as he scored goals in both the halves. He has now netted the ball nine times in his last eight matches.
The 26 year old, who also scored two goals against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 in his previous game, scored in the 5th minute to put the visitors in front. He added another goal to his tally in the 69th minute, to help his side secure three points from
the game.
The Magpies went on the offence right from the start of the game, as the Swans struggled to cope with the pace of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Pardew’s side. However, the Tyneside team almost conceded a goal in the opening stages, after a lapse in concentration from striker Demba
Ba allowed Nathan Dyer to pick up Gylfi Sigurdsson, but his shot went wide of the post.
After surviving the early scare, the Magpies drew first blood, after Cabaye played a ball to Cisse right at the edge of the box, and the Senegalese International fired the ball past the goalkeeper to put his side ahead.
Despite enjoying majority of the possession in the first half, the Swans found it difficult to break through the Newcastle defence. Sigurdsson, who was named the Premier League Player of the Month for March, created an opportunity for the hosts before the
break, but his strong free kick from 25 yards out was nothing that Tim Krul could not handle, as he pushed the ball away to safety.
After the halftime break, the visitors threatened to extend their lead, after the Swans were caught on the break, but the move from Magpies culminated with Cisse hitting the ball off target.
However, in the 69th minute the striker did hit the target after Cabaye provided him the pass, and the 26 year old player displayed his prowess by lofting the ball over Vorm, in the top right corner to put the game beyond all doubt.
Swansea could have managed to score a consolation goal in the dying moments of the game, but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Danny-c10193 Graham failed to hit the target with his effort.
The defeat was the Swans third consecutive in the league, and kept them in the eleventh place in the table. However, the Magpies upped the heat on Spurs and the Gunners, with the Tyneside team just two points adrift of both the sides.
