Newcastle United's ace striker, Papiss Cisse mentioned that he was honoured to get the iconic number 9 shirt at the club, after arriving at the Sports Direct Arena in January.
The Magpies legends Jackie Milburn, Malcolm Macdonald and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alan-c4244 Shearer wore the same shirt during their playing days, and the Senegalese striker admitted that he needs to emulate their greatness, in order to justify his right to the shirt.
The 26-year old has made a massive impact at Tyneside, since his move in January from the German club Freiburg, for an estimated fee of about ten million pounds. So far, the striker has fired 11 goals in his last 10 matches, and will become the first player
in the history of Newcastle to score in seven successive games, if he gets on the scoresheet against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.
Cisse told while talking to reporters, “When I came, it was a big surprise that they had reserved the shirt for me,"
“I just said, 'Wow!' That's more pressure on me, but pressure in a good way, pressure which motivates me. He [Shearer] is a footballing legend here at Newcastle, and I come from nowhere and get to wear it.”
The Senegalese footballer scored a goal in the Magpies 3-0 win against Stoke City last week, to help them climb to the fourth spot in the league table and bolster their chances of playing in the Champions League next season.
Cisse also heaped praise on his Newcastle team-mate http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lionel-Messi-c22296.
He remarked, “The first time I saw him here, I thought, 'There is something Messi-like about this guy'…He can run with it - he can do anything with it. It's extraordinary. It's a pleasure to watch him play.”
