Newcastle United’s prolific striker, Papiss Cisse has revealed that he wants to stay at the Sports Direct Arena, and was disappointed over his side’s failure to qualify for the Champions League next season.
The Magpies ended up at the fifth place in the league standings, following their 3-1 defeat at Goodison Park on Sunday against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and Tottenham grabbed the third and the fourth place respectively after their wins on the final day, meaning that
the Toon will have to contend on playing Europa League next season.
However the Senegalese footballer, who has arguably been the signing of the season, revealed that he had no plans of leaving Newcastle despite their failure to secure a Champions League berth.
The 26-year old has created a massive impact at Tyneside since his 10 million pounds move from the German club Freiburg in January. In total, he has netted 13 goals for his side in 15 league appearances. Before his move to Newcastle, he also scored 22 league
goals for Freiburg in the 2010/11 season, the highest number for any African player in the BundesLiga.
Cisse told the reporters, “I hope to continue scoring goals for Newcastle next season, and I’m looking forward to playing in the Europa League.”
The striker was also glad to see his side qualify for the Europa League next season. He also went into raptures about the Magpies accomplishments in the league. Their tally of 65 points out of the season is their best since the 2003/04 season.
He continued, “It’s good to be in Europe next season, and we can be very happy with what we have achieved this season, but we are still a little disappointed.”
Cisse, who scored one of the goals of the season against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 earlier in the month, failed to find the back of the net in his next three games. He admitted that he was gutted not to score a goal against Everton.
He continued, “We wanted to beat Everton, and finish as high as we could, and we’re disappointed to lose. It was one of those days. I had a chance early in the second half, but I didn’t score, and now the season is finished.”
