Citi Field will host 2013 All-Star Game as an official announcement is expected soon – MLB News
New York Mets’ fans can enjoy a treat now as the 2013 All-Star game will be played in Citi Field. While decision unnecessarily took a long-time, fans are cheerful and looking forward to the day Citi Field will be crowned the honour.
So far in the season, Citi Field has not drawn attendance to a level of sheer satisfaction of the management. This development can result in sudden influx of huge crowd and generate funds the Mets’ management need desperately at the moment.
The Mets as a club had been suffering financial crisis and had to turn to loan options to alleviate their misery. One of the reasons why Major League Baseball did not make announcement about Citi Field right after its inauguration in 2009 was an inability
of the owner of the club to pay back the loan.
Although owner of the club Fred Wilpon had denied this in Spring Training, it is hard to overlook this aspect of the Mets while exploring reasons about why the ballpark has taken longer time than necessary to host All-Star game.
“It has nothing to do with it,” said Wilpon. “I think that the hold-up in the announcement is conditions have changed for New York City and their finances and what they can do. But we're very optimistic we will have the All-Star Game in 2013."
One of the more pragmatic explanations is, since New York is a city that has its own complications and among other issues, questions about management of logistics needed proper attention. Ignorance of those without taking due steps will have caused troubled
in the end.
Only when MLB made sure that everything will happen in line with the requirements, privilege of hosting such a high profile game was granted.
With good news being spread across the club, the Mets will like to see fans coming to the ballpark in great numbers. This in turn can help the club improve their financial condition, which was miserable a couple of months ago, especially when their owner
was confronting law-suits.
Regardless of the decision, the task at hand for the Mets is to grow steady in the season and make sure they end up year 2012 on a high.
