Are northern cities beyond revival?

Cities such as Liverpool, Sunderland and Bradford are "beyond revival" a think tank has argued.

Should northerners move south?

Policy Exchange said current regeneration policies were "failing" and that northerners should move to London, Cambridge and Oxford to avoid becoming "trapped" in poorer areas.

Labour MP Peter Kilfoyle described the Policy Exchange report as "utter nonsense".

The Tories stressed that they supported the regeneration of northern cities and that the right-of-centre think tank report did not represent party policy.

Do you live in a northern city?

Do you think regeneration projects are failing?

Would you consider moving south?

Or are you a southerner thinking of moving north?

I totally agree with that Peter ... MP

Why didn't that Hooray Henry Tory lot so clearly not even google those cities, let alone really explore & ask locals?

Why did Liverpool rightly win EU Capital of Culture?

Glasgow was that too - google EU Capital of Culture transformed cities

  1. like dog says, everywhere you go in Liverpool there's work being done. I don't know how long it'll take but it should be good when finished. Even in a small town near us (leigh) there's a new football ground/college/houses/sports centre being built. There's always something new.

Too bad about your rugby team tho James. lol (joking)

    (wigan fan)

  2. it's garbage. I don't know why they picked Liverpool; I went to uni there in the early 90s and it was a wreck. Now there's work going on everywhere, all the old tenements have been refurbished - it's a completely different place.

Just more anti-northern shite from london media luvvies.

  3. I am sorry for you if you live in the North of England. I was only passing through there for a visit some years ago and found it very depressing.

It wasn't just me, but quite a few others on the tour felt the same. And one of the locals told us that the best thing about Liverpool  was the road out of it. He ought to know since he had emigrated to the US and lived in Florida.

There is no need to be defensive about the north. The best and most friendly and genuine people in England live there. So maybe that's

    enough.

  4. Even politicians don't listen to think tanks.......they're paid to think, says it all, the more wacky the idea the more publicity the think tanks gets....ignore them, hopefully they'll go away.

  5. I have lived in the South, NOT going back, that miserable dump is beyond revival not my fantastic northeast!

  6. Agent Zero you are talking total bollox . Liverpool is no different to any other major city it has it's good and bad . The stereotypical 'thieving' scouser has been disproved thousands of times not least by my Auntie whose job it is to compile crime stats and works for Thames Valley police.

I used to get extremely worked up at the constant c**p on this site towards Liverpool but now I' am glad cos it keeps all the uneducated fcukwits like yourself away.

I wouldn't dream of stereotyping people from city's and I am well travelled within the U.K. I have seen horrors from all over and decent people as well. I witnessed something as a teenager whilst visiting a Friend at Newcastle Uni which has haunted me ever since. I would never assume all Geordie's are like that in fact I know d**n well they ain't. But then I 've been brought up to show respect and will do the same with my kids....

  7. As far as I'm aware, no-one takes any notice of these self-opinionated and often self-appointed  "think-tanks".

  8. Sorry but liverpool did not rightly win capital of culture. i was there when they won it, they themselves did not expect to win and one of the councillors confessed that all they could think of was to drape some lights on the tree's. Newcastle and Edinburgh spent millions and the organisers where in total shock that liverpool which was a hovel at the time won it.

The only culture i witnessed when i was there was the thieving culture and from what i have been told by friends there it is still the same.
