  4. I stayed in an area....it seemed to have lots of names for the region eg Quercy, Dordougne / Lot valley areas.

We were staying near a town called Figiac....another town in the area is Cahors.....the whole area is amazing with fairytale villages scattered around. Yuo would best see them with a hire car as some villages are out a way.

St Criq lapopie...I remember the sign into the village called it one of the most beautiful villages in France! Its set on a cliff and overlooks...hmm I think its the Lot river and has stunning views but the village itself is quaint and cute and pretty.

Rocamadour...again set on a cliff face, but has a church literally coming out of the rockface! Its quite spectaular seeing it for the first time. You can get a funicular down to it ( you park on top of the "cliff"...and walk around the town..up and down steps....

These are a bit touristy..but there are reasons for it!!

A small village ( you may need a good map) called Autoire is very lovely as well....we spent a lovely afternoon there!!

St Cere was another lovely one.....I know we visited a few others whose names I forget but as I said the whole area is lovely and scattered with these amamzing villages...

I remember a French woman telling us that even for France this area was considered lovely.

The area also has caves and ancient rock paintings you can visit as well that pretty neat.

  5. Paris

    Lyon

    Rouen

    Nice

    Toulouse

    Nantes

    St Malo

    Marseille

    Honfleur

    Dieppe

    Loire Valley

    Versailles

    Chartres

    Givernie

    Mont St Michel

Why don't you just do your own tour?  Get a train pass and go around the country for a few weeks.  Spend a day to a few days in every city I mentioned but Paris.   For the latter I reccomend almost a week.

This is a very broad question.  Paris is an old country with a lot of things jam packed into it.

  6. Lots of cities in Alsace (Strasbourg, Obernai, Colmar). Beautiful sites, good eats! Lots of history as well!

If you like wine, there is the "Route de vin" in Alsace also going through all the wine-producing towns.
