  2. Saint Ann. Birthplace of Bob Marley.

Kingston, the largest city and the capital of Jamaica, is located on the south-eastern coast of the island. It is the seventh largest natural harbour in the world and has a bustling port, exporting sugar, rum and bananas. It has a population of 7,50,000 inhabitants.

Kingston, an ancient city founded in 1692 by the British, flourished as a port for slave-traders in the eighteenth century. However, hardly any visible traces of its colourful history are left in the city, primarily due to a series of natural disasters during the seventeenth century.

The city is characterised by a tropical climate. It stays warm and sunny almost all through the year, with the average temperature staying around 25°C. It rains the most during the months of May–June and September October.

Ocho Rios is located in the Saint Ann Parish in the northern part of Jamaica. This seaside town with a population of approximately 16,000 inhabitants is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Jamaica.

Ocho Rios experiences a hot and humid climate typical to rest of the country. It is sunny throughout the year with barely any seasonal variations in temperature. The average annual temperature is 23°C.

For centuries, Ocho Rios was a sleepy village like many others along the northern coast of Jamaica. The deepening and broadening of its pier attracted many trading ships to the area.

In the 1960s, Ocho Rios began to be developed as a modern tourist destination. This has been largely due to planned exploitation of its natural treasures supported by relevant infrastructure.

Port Antonio is in Portland parish in the north-eastern part of Jamaica. With a population of approximately 13,000 inhabitants, this seaside town is the capital of the parish and the third largest port in the country.

The region enjoys a hot and humid climate. The temperature aggregates at 30°C throughout the year. While there is rainfall throughout the year, the maximum rainfall is from September to November.

Until the end of the nineteenth century, Port Antonio was a small coastal town. The plantation of bananas and its shipping brought about prosperity to the region.

It started attracting rich Americans for the fresh sea air and it slowly developed into a resort town. Later, it became popular with Hollywood stars and the jetsetters from America.

  6. Jamaican CITIES are Kingston, Portmore, Spanish Town, Montego Bay. Also, the country is divided into 14 parishes. Each parish has at least one major town that is its capitol. Ocho Rios, Port Antonio, Mandeville and Negril are all major towns (not cities per sey).

Kingston - The current capitol of Jamaica. Population is in the region of 1 million people, with at least 300,000 people going into the city every day from portmore. Kingston is the business centre of jamaica. It is an intense city full of all the jamaican extremes. It is the heart of the international reggae and dancehall music world. The slums in kingston have also been home to numerous major international criminal gangs.

Spanish Town - This town is noted (perhaps erroneously) as a city in Jamaica. It was the first capitol of Jamaica under spanish rule, but never truly had all the facilities to be termed a modern 'city'. This town's rich cultural history under spanish and british rule, has left it full of historic buildings and sites of all kinds.  Crime is also a high risk. Extremely violent gangs exist in a delicate balance within the town's crevices and slums. There is an beautiful facade of historic structures, but much of the city beyond its major streets, is dilapidated historic buildings, with many parcels of land 'captured' by groups of poor, economically depressed people.

Montego Bay (Referred to as the second city) - The tourism capital of Jamaica. More than 40 percent of all the major businesses here are designed to serve tourists or to supports aspects of that industry (restuarants, hotels, car rental companies, air charter, ground charter, tours, watersports, entertainment, souvenir shops).

Portmore - The newest city in Jamaica. This development began as a dormitory town and to an extent, still is the largest dormitory town in the Caribbean. About half of its population of about 500,000 people travels to and from the kingston metropolitan area to work on a daily basis.

Jamaica has no more than about 3.5 million people. The official count is 2.7, but its assumed that many people 'dodge' the population researchers.

Climate - It doesnt snow here. Its a tropical environment with sunny days for more than 300 out of every 365 days of the year. Extreme weather variations include hurricanes and tropical depressions/storms. Major hurricanes affecting the island occur at least once every two years, but direct hits are very rare (more than 10 years apart). There are two rainy seasons annually, where you can expect weather to have light to heavy showers for most of the day.

  7. If you need all that information, the best thing to do is go to an "official" website for Jamaica.  I'm sure you can find the info you need that way.

But it sounds like you want us to write your report for you.  And you wouldn't learn much that way.  Part of the idea is for you to learn how to research a problem, not just scribble down some random information that strangers give you in a short-answer format like this.

So, get to work!  It might even be fun!

[Hint:  look for info on Ocho Rios, Kingston, and Montego Bay, for starters.]
