I am an American Citizen and was wondering how to go about becoming a citizen in Canada? What counts towards it? I have a clean background never been in trouble with the law. Will that help? What are the costs and expected wait time?

  1. you need to be a permanent resident of canada for 3 years out of the past 4 in order to qualify for canadian citizenship.

if you want to become a permanent resident of canada, you need to apply. i'm not sure how much it costs these days but the wait time should be between 3-5 years now.

you need to qualify before you can apply for permanent residence. not anyone can just apply. go to www.cic.gc.ca and see the requirements and documents needed to file for application.

they also have a list of requirements that go by points system. you need to get 67 points before you can qualify to apply for it.
