  1. For EU citizenship, as far as I'm aware you have to be married for 5 years before being eligable, and under go interviews and spot checks.  Ireland recently changed its citizenship laws and in order to become an Irish citizen you have to be living and working in the country for I think 4 years, or have proof that you were born here, or that one or both of your parents were.

I agree that the best course of action would be to contact your Irish embassy for all the ins and outs... I just know we voted to make it much more difficult to become a citizen of Ireland because over the past 10 or 15 years we'd had a lot of people abusing the system.

  2. Hiya yeah the law changed in only about the last 5 years. It used to be that if after being married to an Irish person for a set number of years the spouse could apply for Irish citizenship regardless of where they live. Now however the law has changed & they must live together in Ireland in order for the citizenship rights to transfer & be intenet to stay living in Ireland too (noone will keep you hostage though! :0) )

  3. Not automatically, no.

Your best bet is to contact the Irish Embassy or Consulate in your country and ask them.
