Citizenship to land the Grade C Boylesports.com "Official Betting Partner To The Irish Soccer Team" Handicap Hurdle
The Grade C Boylesports.com "Official Betting Partner To The Irish Soccer Team" Handicap Hurdle will take place at Punchestown on 24th April, 2012, where 25 runners will compete for €19,500 over 2 miles on a surface that has been labelled soft.
Among the 25 runners, Citizenship looks like he is in the best form.
The six-year-old gelding does not lack experience, as he started his career on 9th July, 2008. Throughout his career, there were some truly shining moments and others which completely missed the mark.
In 2011, the son of Beat Hollow, out of mare Three More, began his season with a finish in eighteenth place, but showed steady improvement as the season progressed.
In his closing race of the season, Citizenship finished as a runner-up to Cass Bligh, where he narrowly missed the victory by ¾ of a length in the Paddypower.com Handicap Hurdle at Leopardstown on 27th December, 2011.
The bay gelding, who is under the training of  Mrs. John Harrington for owner, Fresh By Nature Syndicate, began his season with an exceptional performance.
Bred by Juddmonte Farms Ltd, the bay gelding defeated, Leah Claire, by 1 ¼ lengths in the Grade B Boylesports.com Hurdle at Leopardstown on 28th January, 2012, as he raced with a shot of 10 to 1.
Mounted by jockey, Robbie Power, he downed the race with his brisk pace.
Satu, the eight-year-old gelding, who was whelped on 10th March, 2004, is likely to give Citizenship a tough time on the track today.
Trained by Eoin Doyle, for owner Paul Holden, the bay gelding has improved with every race.
In his seasonal debut, he finished ninth among ten runners in the Prime Beef Handicap Hurdle, but redemption was not far for the son of Marju, out of Magic Touch, as he emerged successful from the third start of the season.
Paired with jockey, Michael Butler, the duo swiftly took over the Munster Waste Managment Handicap Hurdle at Cork, and finished three lengths ahead of Isobella Blue.
It is speculated that Citizenship will take the victory, but with a line-up of tough competitors, it is difficult to say as to who might succeed.
Satu’s progression has earned him respect and is hoped that he can deliver in the same manner as he did in his last race.
