Citroen Picasso - Airbag Fault?

Hi All,

A few days ago my Dad started his car and on the computer, It said "Airbag Fault" and the Airbag light remains on throughout the journey.

He took it to a Mechanic who put the light out but it then came back on during the journey back home.

He has booked it in to a Citreon deeler but the problem is its after our Holiday which we have to travel from Leicester to Minehead (Butlins). Are we still ok to travel in the Citroen? Can the Airbag deploy unexpectadly?

I have checked a few things, EG the draw under the drivers seat but still the light remains on.

Can anyone help?

  1. Had the same problem on mine, casued by a contact error in the wiring of the side airbag built into the driver seat.

This contact error can happen for only a second and then back to normal, but the signal would stay on as long as somebody resets the computer - which is what your mechanic probably did. He might not even have checked the car itself.

I suggest you take it to a garage to have the wiring and connectors checked.

Note that when the airbag light is on, the airbags are disabled by the computer. So no BANG if you hit something!

  2. When the mechanic put the light out he should have been able to tell you if there was a problem and where that problem was. If its come back on there is obviously a fault. The car will be ok to drive and the only thing with the airbags is they may not work at all in a collision. It may be something simple like someone pushed something under a seat and broke a wire but the dealer will be able to find out. Happy holiday.
