City Wolf after a torrid start in the races looks to save his four race winning streak in the Autumn Stakes
After a series of maiden special weight races in hope to get his racing career going, Stronach Stables owned 4-year-old colt City Wolf tried his luck starting from Belmont Park to Aqueduct and then staying at Gulfstream Park in attempt to break his maiden.
Three races in total there but all in vain.
Five attempts in total at breaking his maiden in the U.S, City Wolf went further north to end his bad luck in the maidens’ once and for all and decided to go to Canada to participate in a seven furlong long maiden special weight race at Woodbine on its synthetic
surface for the first time under new jockey E Wilson.
On 7 May, 2011, City Wolf turned the tide as he said farewell to the American dirt and greeted the Canadian Poly Track which suited him the best, and finally after 9 months of agony, City Wolf could finally look to move his racing career forward.
And moved forward he did, the son of Giant’s Causeway out of Baby Zip by Relaunch, City Wolf never tasted defeat after his maiden nightmare.
Right after breaking his maiden, City Wolf remained at Woodbine to only win another race, an allowance race over at 1 1/16 miles under the same jockey over the same surface.
The new chemistry seemed to have been working just fine as the pair landed a third race in a row. This time the distance was stretched up to 1 1/8 miles at Woodbine on 24 July, 2011, in an allowance claimer.
These past three victories didn’t come against top level runners, but bouncing back from a series of defeats at the lowest level for so long, the recovery City Wolf made was absolutely remarkable.
The 4-year-old colt is coming off a sharp win in the Grade 3 Durham Cup at Woodbine over at 1 1/8 miles to complete his four race winning streak.
Now, City Wolf is pointed toward the Grade 2, $150,000 Autumn Stakes for 3 years and up against 9 other colts and geldings.
The Kentucky bred will break from post number 10 carrying 121 pounds under E Wilson for trainer R Baker.
