City commissioner Marc Sarnoff lashes out at Miami Marlins’ management - MLB Update
One of those members of the city authorities who were against the idea of constructing the Marlins new ballpark, Marc Sarnoff has joined the fans in criticising Miami Marlins’ team management over agreeing on a blockbuster trade deal with the Toronto Blue
Jays.
Sarnoff has taken the opportunity to vent his disappointment with the top officials of the team.
Stating that fans have lost faith in their ability to manage properly, he calls into question decisions taken by them over the last few years.
It is widely believed that owner of the club Jeffrey Loria, through lobbying, got the construction of the ballpark approved.
In this way, he was able to use a huge amount of the taxpayers’ money on the construction without spending much from his own pocket.
Apart from this, Loria is accused of being more concerned with money than bringing major improvements in the team. He hires and fires officials for no other reason than saving more money, regardless of whether those moves affect progress of the team positively
or negatively.
The Marlins lack stability when it comes to allowing proper opportunities to the players for proving themselves.
They hardly provide them a couple of years to unleash their best possible performances.
For the same reason, some of the players that they got rid of through the trade performed extremely well by the time they joined other organisations.
For example, during 2012 regular season they traded Hanley Ramirez because he could not meet their expectations. However, when he became part of the Los Angeles Dodgers, he improved immensely.
Against the backdrop of the history of resorting to fire sales, the current mega-deal involving the likes of Jose Reyes and Josh Johnson is inviting severe criticism against the Marlins’ officials.
"Everybody in the world wants to talk about the Marlins and the fact they're now a Triple-A team," said Marc Sarnoff. "The Marlins have lost pretty much all credibility with fans. Even if this trade is a positive move from a baseball standpoint, it won't
be viewed by the general public as a positive move."
Fans will be hoping that the Marlins keep focus on their preparations for 2013 regular season and do not distract from the real objective.
