City of Collierville
says Lorenzen Wright’s ex-wife didn’t share critical information: NBA News
Former Memphis Grizzlies player Lorenzen Wright went missing on July 18 last year. Ten days later, his decomposing body was found in a swamp and upon initial investigations, his death was termed as a case of homicide.
Since then, there hasn’t been much development in the case and last week the state of Memphis raised the reward money from 5,000 dollars to 21,000 to get some semblance of information on the murderer. Although, police is still
in search of a witness, it has been revealed that Lorenzen’s ex-wife and mother of his six, Sherra Wright, didn’t share significant information with the detectives about her husband’s alleged involvement in “major criminal activity”.
Sherra also didn’t tell the Collierville detectives about unknown men, who sought Lorenzen. The allegations came to the fore in new records of a civil lawsuit, which was in response to Sherra’s lawsuit in the U.S. District Court
on behalf of her six children.
Attorney Ed McKenney, who is representing city of Collierville in this case, said
 "It was clear that Ms. Wright did not provide detectives with critical information when she first spoke with them and, in fact, did not provide that information to them until shortly before Mr. Wright's body was recovered."
"As to why she withheld it, we don't know at this time. ... But from the detectives' viewpoint, that certainly complicated the investigation and deprived them of critical information regarding the last moments of Mr. Wright's activities
that evening before he left the house."
No comments from Sherra or her lawyer Gail Mathes have been made so far in this regard. Sherra has been a big critic of the way, the Collierville police carried out their investigation in the aftermath of the gruesome murder.  According
to her, the authorities didn’t check call records of her husband’s cell phone and they also failed to check with the neighbouring authorities whether or not they had any information about her husband’s whereabouts.
In her complaint, Sherra also pointed out that the officials didn’t properly investigate a 911 call made through Wright’s cell phone on the very night he went missing.
Responding to the allegations, Attorney Mc Kenney added;
"We don't believe it's fair for Ms. Wright to criticize the department for its investigation when it was she that withheld critical information."
These allegations come after, the lawyers from both sides had claimed last year that Sherra had nothing to do with the murder, nor did she in any way knew about the killers.
It has been more than 14 months since Wright was murdered and still, the city police has been unsuccessful in producing a scintilla of evidence. The latest twist in the whole murder saga just seems to be an effort to save the skin
of the police department that has failed in making any sort of headway.
